Jo-Anne began documenting midwifery in 2001 when she met Nicole Khan, a 16-year old woman pregnant with her first child.
Nicole laboured with the assistance of her doula and midwife-in-training, Amelia Drydyn. This was Jo-Anne’s first experience with birth photography, as well as her first introduction to the amazing work of midwives.
Since then, she has spent 6 months photographing teen mothers at the Jessie Center in Toronto and has now turned her attention to the Riverdale Community Midwives.
